2. Hilton Head Island Bike Trails

Hilton Head is an outdoor lover’s paradise. The island is relatively small (12 miles by five miles) and boasts over 117 miles of bike trails meaning you do not need an automobile to move about. Typically, a bicycle is the best way to explore all that the island has to offer.

In the 1960’s, Hilton Head began discouraging the use of automobiles and promoting bicycles instead. Today, you will find a fantastic network of bike trails to ride to get around the entire island.

Savannah is one of America’s best-kept secrets. Savannah was not destroyed during the American Civil War leaving much of the city’s architecture intact. That architecture can still be seen today in all of its glory.

5. Daufuskie Island

Daufuskie Island is a great stop-off on the way from Hilton Head to Savannah. The tiny island has a mere 250 residents, yet despite its small size, there is plenty to see and do on it.

6. Coligny Beach

Located on the southern tip of the island, Harbour Town is a quaint area on Hilton Head that is packed with things to see and do.

You’ll know your in the right area once you stumble upon the famous 90 ft. tall lighthouse staged along the water. The light house offers guest the ability to climb to the peak and you’ll be amazed by the panoramic view of Hilton Head Island and its surrounding water, marsh, fairway, and harbor. It’s truly a site to see.

8. Mitchelville Freedom Park

Mitchelville was settled by ex-slaves pre-American Civil War. Due to its role in South Carolina history, it has become an important location and in 2005, was officially unveiled as a park.

Michelville Freedom Park is off the beaten path and is secluded. Along with learning about the area’s history, you may see dolphins diving in the Atlantic waters off the coast.

9. Gullah Heritage Trail

Hilton Head has its own unique history that dates back centuries and the Gullah Heritage Trail is home to a nearly forgotten culture that was born during slavery times in the United States.

Known as the Gullah Geechee Corridor, you will learn all about the West African slaves that made the area home at one time.

The culture of the Gullah Geechee has remained almost completely within the corridor making this a great way to learn about an unknown part of America.

10. The Jazz Corner

If you love live music, especially jazz, then this is the place to be. The Jazz Corner is renowned for hosting live jazz events every night of the week.
